Selvatura Park is a conservation area located in Monteverde with an area of

over 850 acres of protected land where a variety of the area's favorite activities

are offered in a same place. This condition offers the benefit to the visitors of

enjoying their time doing activities instead of using their time to be transferred

from one tour to the other though the rocky roads of Monteverde. This

All constructions at Selvatura Park are certified by the College of Architects and

Engineers of Costa Rica and have all the insurance policies as well as MINAE

permits necessary to guarantee the safety and enjoyment of our visitors.

Selvatura Park has its very own Canopy Tour adventure! Our tour is the only

canopy tour built entirely inside the cloud forest. In this tour, visitors will cross

through the unique cloud forest canopy suspended over the forest while

attached to a high weight capacity cable and using the best climbing gear which

combined provides with a wonderful experience that will not be easy to forget.

This tour not only combines the thrill of one of Costa Rica's most safe and

popular adventures, but also provides a unique view point of the cloud forest

canopy which was only possible to enjoy by scientists until recently.

The tour starts up at the main dressing room where our visitors will get geared

up and will be transported immediately to the instruction platform. At the

instruction platform our expert guides will instruct and provide our visitors with

all the necessary guidelines for a successful tour completion.

Next our visitors will be taken to the first platform where they will start the tour.

Visitors will cross through the forest canopy passing through three sections of

cables in which they will need to take small walks in between each section.

During one of these walks they will reach our Tarzan Swing where those with an

adventurous spirit will surely get a blast. The Tarzan Swing is a side activity

included in the tour where we give our visitors the option of swinging through

the forest while attached to a high security rope, with which they jump out of a

platform and experience adventure at its best.

After this the tour will continue until our visitors arrive once again to ground

level. The tour consists of 12 and 15 cables, 18 platforms and one Tarzan

Swing. There is a total of 2.0 miles of total cable length. It is suitable for people

of all ages although it's not recommended for certain people with extreme

weight excess. Visitors should wear long pants, hiking boots and depending on

the weather some rain gear. This tour lasts two and a half hours approximately.

There are many bridges systems in the world, few of them are hanging bridges,

and fewer still are those that are located inside the real cloud forest. Selvatura

Park´s treetop walkways provide the best way to safely admire the cloud forest

canopy.

The treetop walkways tour consists of 1.9 miles of trails in which our visitors will

encounter eight bridges of various lengths which range between 170 feet and

560 feet. Each bridge features 5 foot width and capacity of 80 people per bridge

which make the treetop walkways at Selvatura Park not only the longest bridge

system in Costa Rica but also the safest and strongest.

Also Selvatura Park's treetop walkways are fully approved by the College of

Architects and Engineers of Costa Rica, which ensures that they were

constructed following only the best construction standards and thus provide the

best quality available.

Come and admire these awesome structures which were built in San Jose,

transported to Monteverde and carried on shoulder by our workers to be

assembled inside the cloud forest thus minimizing damage to the cloud forest as

much as possible.

The treetop walkways can be enjoyed by people of all ages and physical

conditions. Most of the trail is flat and climbs are very small. The trail is a

circuit so our visitors won't get lost and may walk at their own rhythm. This

year all our trials have been covered with special walking blocks which provide

an enhanced traction for our walkers and provide a more uniform terrain to

walk along the trails, which cross 90% though virgin forest. Our visitors may be

able to appreciate a wide variety of flora and fauna from the area plus, they will

be able to observe the biodiversity of the cloud forest canopy which is not found

anywhere else in the world.

The treetop walkways neighbor with the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, the

flora and fauna in both parks is very similar because they are part of the same

forest with the difference that Selvatura Park is located on the Atlantic side of

the forest and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is on the pacific side.

Visitors should wear comfortable footwear, rubber boots aren't necessary since

there is no mud on the trails. Also we recommend wearing a light jacket, long

or short pants, and optional binoculars and cameras. The treetop walkways

provide the best vintage point to observe the beauty of the cloud forest in all its

levels. This activity lasts between one hour and a half and two hours.

As a complement to the Treetop Walkways you can hire a Natural History Walk

which provides our visitors with a broader and more thorough experience of the

marvels of the cloud forest, they are conducted by naturalist guides specialized

in the area of Monteverde and Selvatura Park, which ensures that each walk will

have a biological, ornithological and cultural approach of Monteverde and the

cloud forest.

Although the treetop walkways may be completed independently, the Natural

History Walks are highly recommended on the fact that our clients conclude the

tour very satisfied with the information received and above all with the

personalized attention they receive from the guides during these walks.

Our Natural History Walks are formed of groups of up to 8 people at a time,

although different options may be worked out for bigger groups regardless of

their size. The Natural History Walks through the Treetop Walkways take

between two hours and two hours and a half.

Selvatura Park offers one of the largest butterfly gardens in the Americas,

with an area of 300 feet long by 90 feet wide and 50 feet tall, a great dome

structure covered by a special photo-thermic Saran helps control the

temperature inside the garden. A perfect temperature that enables our garden

to host more than 50 different species of butterflies from different altitudes

and climates found throughout Costa Rica.

Our specialized guides will provide an interesting tour and will answer all the

questions regarding these beautiful creatures. Visitors will learn about the lifecycle

of butterflies and moths and will also learn many interesting facts about

butterflies in general. They will also have as-close-as-you-can-get contact with

butterflies as extravagant as the Morpho Peleides.

The butterfly garden at Selvatura Park is a beautiful entomological experience

recommended for people of all ages and physical condition. To complement our

visitor's experience at the butterfly garden, we commend to visit the amazing

Bio art Exhibit “Jewels of the Rain Forest” which hosts not only most of the

butterflies found in Costa Rica but in the world as well as other insects from all

over the planet. The approximate duration of this tour is of one hour.

At our hummingbird garden, our visitors will observe more than 14 different

species of hummingbirds including a few species that are not commonly

seen in other areas of Monteverde. At our garden the relaxing waterfalls

and the beautiful natural floral arrangements provide a perfect setting for

natural photography lovers. The hummingbird garden is also a perfect

picnic area.

We invite you to come to our Herpetarium, a reptile and amphibian exhibition

in which you will be able to see some of the most beautiful live specimens of

Iguanas, Snakes, and Frogs among many others gathered from all over Costa

Rica and kept in optimum conditions inside their acclimatized terrariums which

simulate the natural habitat of each species. Enjoy and learn about Costa Rica's

herpetology while you are joined by a guide specialized in reptiles and

amphibians during your visit to our beautiful facilities. This is a tour that you

During this tour our visitors will learn about the behavior of tree-frogs as well

as ground frogs and toads. They will also learn the differences between each

of these families. Plus they will also learn about the behaviors of serpents,

their feeding habits and their function inside each ecosystem as well as what

is myth and what is true about these mysterious creatures, to make this tour

a real educative quality experience.
